Hey, friends! I am Alexis Chastain. I am 21 years old, and I am in my junior year at Meredith College. Currently, I am studying music education, and my primary instrument is the Tenor Sax, and my secondary is voice. I have always loved working with kids, especially middle schoolers! Yeah, I know, it’s not the age group most people want to teach, but I want to be a good musical influence and role model for students during the crucial years of adolescence. I want to be the encouraging voice my students need to hear during the sometimes gloomy days of middle school. So what do I like to do with my free time? Well, when I’m not slaving away in the practice room or studying for my classes, like most college students I enjoy the occasional Netflix binge, listening to music, and hanging out with my friends.
I’ve always enjoyed writing. In fact, I used to write all the time: short stories, poems, and sometimes I would attempt journaling. Unfortunately when I started college, the only writing I was doing was for my classes. It wasn’t until recently that I realized I missed expressing myself through pen and page. I did not really have much to write about when I started school. I had lost my muse, but recently I have found something worth writing about. My experiences with Christ.
Jesus saved me when I was eight years old, and I have been involved in church since I was in my mother’s womb. I would go to Sunday School, Children’s Church, Music Camps, Children’s Choir, VBS, and more. Then around sixth grade, I started volunteering at VBS, and I knew that I was supposed to work with kids. I loved teaching about Jesus, and showing others how much He loved them. Throughout the years I have worked at Vacations Bible Schools, Children’s Services, and over the summers, I work at a small Christian summer camp called Truett Camp.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? Whom shall go for us?” And I replied, “I will go! Send me!”
